France always gives you a fantastic holiday and the Charente and the Dordogne are strangely 2 of the lesser known destinations.
I say strangely because the countryside here is so beautiful and varied - the Dordogne has lakes and forest and cool little villages to visit surrounded by streams and rivers. The charente has rolling hills and endless chestnut forests filled with wild boar and deer.
For culture buffs, there is lots of historical interest from Roman remains to medieval churches and later architecture. Plenty of chateaus too to visit.
The wine lover has Cognac, Bordeaux ,Bergerac, St Emilion and more to try the wine tasting circuit - its always best to try the smaller vineyards for a more personal touch and more unusual wines.
Great food too in restaurants, bistros and food markets like the summer night market at Varaigne where you have 7-8 local producers selling their food - lamb, duck, steal, cheese, vegetarian and artisan icre cream.
At our chambres d'hotes at Montaurand, we are perfectly placed for you to base your expeditions to all the surrounding areas - Charente, Dordogne, Charente maritime and more.
The 30 min train service to bordeaux is brilliant too as long as you book in advance to get the best prices.
We are open all year round so get in touch to book your summer stay in our sumptuous private suite.
