Walking through the Forests of the Charente on your French Summer Holiday

Here at the private suite at Montaurand, we are surrounded by miles of beautiful old growth chestnut forests and rolling fields full of sunflowers (in the summer of course).

In the cold winter sun, it is really beautiful with the fresh cold air and clear blue skies.

Today Lily and I walked about 5 miles together - not bad for a king charles cavalier!

It is great time for reflecting on your own world and escaping the craziness of the world outside.

When you book to stay with us at the chambres d'hotes, we can suggest a variety of walks for you to take both long and short near the house. There is one in particular through the forest and fields behind the house that leads to breathtaking views across the valley. Also you can go through the national forest on a long chalk path thats really lovely too in the Domaine de Horte.

Then there are other walks a short car ride away so you can spend the day out walking in the Charente and Dordogne countryside and stop off for a lovely lunch too.

If cycling is your thing, then the flow velo national cycle routes go past the house and we see lots of groups of lycra clad cyclists whizzing past us. There are lots of hills so it is good exercise I'm sure although I do find that french motorists are not the most thoughtful when it comes to 2 wheeled 'targets'!

Of course, on any walking day we will start you off with our great organic breakfast with lovely local breads, cheese, fresh eggs from our organic totally free range bonkers hens, fantastic coffee courtesy of Mr le Barista and, when in season, rasberries from our own garden.

So do get in touch with us now to check availability for this year at the private suite - whether its a weekend getaway, a week of culture or a longer stay we will look forward to meeting you.
